Having fun, always learning and helping where I can

I am Peter Vandenabeele, entrepreneur, father, networker, developer, ... 43 years old. With 6 kids to love and 7 previous steps in my career, I already built up some experience, yet more new ideas and places to explore loom on the horizon.

Mission statement

My LinkedIn profile shows the list of previous and current occupations and projects (IMEC, AG Associates Inc., Alcatel, SensArray Corp., Netvision, Mind, Essensium, Fedict). The professional mission statement I extracted from this experience and from the many personal contacts, trainings and books enjoyed is:

"Make and sell a product or service that users adore,

deliver it in an exceptional way,

have fun with it and while at it,

try a little improvement of the world."

New ideas

I believe the time is right to start using more open Web 2.0 communities for better job matching. The fundamental problem I see is that it is still very difficult for an individual job-seeker to have a full and detailed view on which interesting employers are available in a certain area. In parallel, employers have great problems finding well matching employees and consultants to get all the work done. I had some specific ideas about how we could solve this problem and for that reason started the site http://allejobsinleuven.be/ . If at least through better matching, we can make employees feel better with their employer, yielding more efficient results, less wasted time in traffic (and less CO2) and simply people being happier, we have contributed that small fraction to "world improvement".

Side projects

A project I started on 27 Sept 2007 is to set-up the "Leuven Valley" group on LinkedIn.com. The goal of that group is to bring together a network of professionals in Leuven, both as a LinkedIn group and on the http://www.LeuvenValley.be/ site.

I recently published a project called Taximize where I offer a Free software calculation of taxes for a "management vennootschap" (a small Inc that is used by people managing other companies). I recently discovered del.icio.us and started saving My bookmarks there. Fun to see how many people bookmark good sites and on the go create yet another reputation system.
